- Born in 1412 in Domremy to
parents Jacques Darc and Isabelle de Vouthon
- Spent childhood attending her
father’s herds and learning religion and housekeeping skills from her
mother
- At age of 12 she started hearing
“voices” of St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret believing they
were sent by God
- Voices told her it was her
mission to free her country from the English
- Voices also told her to cut her
hair, dress ion uniform, and pick up the arms
- After passing an exam by
theologians, she was given troops to command and the rank of captain
- At the battle of Orleans in May
1429, she led the troops to victory over England
- Opposing troops were fearful of
her
- In 1430, she was captured by the
Burgundians
- She was convicted at the age of
19 with witchcraft and heresy on May 30, 1431 and was burned at the stake in
the Rouen marketplace
- In 1456 a second trial that
proved her innocent was held
- She was beatified in 1909 and
canonized in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV
