Henry Blackwell is 1855 but kept her maiden name.
She
was the first woman to ever receive a degree from college.
This
was against all beliefs and customs of that time period.
She
received the degree from Oberlin College.
After
college she was an anti-slavery abolitionist.
She
later fought for women’s rights.
She
organized the first women’s rights convention is Worcester, Massachusetts.
Her
speech at the convention is said to have energized Susan B. Anthony to start
her women’s rights campaign.
She
started the Womens National Loyal League during the Civil.
The
supported the Union efforts of freeing the slave.
The
American Women Suffrage Association to support in 1969 was started by Lucy.
Near
the end of her life she and her husband started the “The Woman’s Journal
of Boston”. It was the national woman’s suffrage paper.
