Each year the 1st grade students bring learning to life through "creating" their own store. They name it, bring in all the (empty) items, sort into categories, price, and organize the store. Then we take a tour of our local store, Michelle's Market, comparing which areas are the same and what we did not have. The kids noticed we did not have a pet section or a bakery; so we added both. With help from high school students, we baked fresh cookies and brownies to "sell" at the Grand Opening! The Grand Opening is where any family/special friends come to shop. The kids showcased some songs about money, their addition skills, counting money, and role playing the various duties it takes to keep a store running smoothly. We thank everyone that joined us on Friday, April 8! It was a great turnout!
