As we approach the start of a new school year, we want to share some recent updates pertaining to parking and the bus pick-up/drop-off location. As you can see on the images, the new bus pick-up/drop-off area will be on the South side of the school on Broad Street. The first bus will park at the stop signs and the remaining buses will fill in behind. If you have a student that does not ride the bus, they can either be dropped off or picked up in front of the school. Hopefully, with this change, it will leave the front of the school less congested before school and after school.
By the time the school year begins, a new cement parking lot will be available for parking just to the North of the school. We want to have the students parking in the new parking lot during the school day. The new parking lot, in white, is labeled on the image. Students should plan on using the main entrance. We do not want students parking on the property to the east of the Ag/Shop building. That is labeled in green on the image. If there is overflow from the new parking lot, they can continue parking in the gravel parking lot near the Kanyon.
There has also been two new stop signs installed in front of the school. The intersection located right in front of the main entrance will now be a three way stop.

In an attempt to strengthen our youth basketball pipeline, KWL head basketball coaches Donnie Hamiel and Will Walker and basketball Athletic Director Will Gottlob are organizing youth basketball parent meetings. These will be on Monday, August 10 in White Lake and Tuesday, August 11 in Kimball. If you are a parent of a 2nd-8th grade KWL boys or girls basketball player, please plan to attend whichever works best for you; no need to attend both. Local Students Travel to Washington, D.C. for Youth Tour
Thirty-three teens representing 19 South Dakota electric cooperatives traveled to the Washington, D.C., area in late June for the 2026 South Dakota Youth Tour.
Central Electric Cooperative’s Youth Tour representatives were Howard High School student Ann Connor, daughter of Michal and Rebecca Connor; White Lake High School student Alexis Moore, daughter of Clint and Rebecca Moore; Kimball High School student Delilah Rasmussen, daughter of Tony and Rebecca Rasmussen; and Wessington Springs High School student Alexis Roesler, daughter of Aaron and Alicia Roesler.
The annual trip, coordinated by the South Dakota Rural Electric Association (SDREA) and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), provides students with a deeper understanding of history, civic engagement and the role of electric cooperatives in their communities. Approximately 1,350 South Dakota students have participated in the Youth Tour since the program began in the 1963.
The group toured many of the nation’s most treasured landmarks, including several presidential and war memorials. Students also visited the U.S. Capitol Building, U.S. Supreme Court, Arlington National Cemetery, National Archives and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, where much of the nation’s paper currency is produced.
While in Washington, students met with U.S. Senators John Thune and Mike Rounds. They also had the opportunity to connect with Youth Tour delegates from 44 other states. The group attended Youth Day at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, where keynote speaker Mike Schlappi, a four-time Paralympic medalist in U.S. men’s wheelchair basketball, shared a message about perseverance and leadership.

Kimball School was represented well this spring for JH Rodeo. Participants were: Kamden Hamiel, Ava Heezen, Josie Hamiel, Kendall Gillen and Jonah Heezen. Kendall Gillen and Josie Hamiel have earned spots on the National Team, which is held in Guthrie, Oklahoma in late June. Kendall will participate in barrels and Josie in poles. Good luck!

The South Dakota Music Educators Association hosts an Elementary Honor Choir in conjunction with the High School All-State Chorus & Orchestra. 4th & 5th grade students send in their audition for the opportunity to sing at the Honor Choir, which will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at The Monument in Rapid City. Kimball School is proud to announce that Tyson Von Eye, Maya De Jong, Chasen Walsh, Allie Krier, and Presley Goodall have all been selected to participate! Congratulations!
